"YAA, It's an Art Studio" is an art studio for all young people in Blarney, Co.Cork specialising in acrylic painting. Young Acrylic Art has been in business since 2001 and The doors of the studio in Blarney were first opened in 2012 and has been buzzing with budding artists since.
The studio is owned and run by local woman, Anne Gabriel who has had a passion for art her whole life. Her main goal is to share her knowledge and encouragechildren and teenagers in the community to explore and nurture their creative side. She has over 16 years experience in facilitating art groups for children and teens. She gained a Diploma and in community-based guidance and support with UCC and studied the Principles of Art Therapy in Crawford College Cork.
Anne began her journey in facilitating art groups in 2001, when she established Young Acrylic Art, better known these days as YAA. Young acrylic art quickly became popular among the community and before she knew it, Anne was traveling to numerous community centres, schools and GAA clubs every week! Art groups were being enjoyed from Carrignavar to Donoughmore and everywhere in between.
11 years later, in 2012, Anne thought about holding classes in one venue, which could be decorated and customised to benefit the ever growing family of artists who had been attending art group. After much searching, Anne stumbled across an old little building in Blarney Village in much need of TLC. It was then she decided to put all her paints in one basket and signed a lease. With a great deal of hard work and creativity, the old little building was transformed into the bright and airy "YAA, It's an Art Studio". In 2017 the building went up for sale but Anne wasn't about to let her studio slip through her fingers. She emptied her pockets and is now the proud owner of the studio building.
The bright blue studio is easy to find and boasts brilliant window displays admired by all who pass it. Inside is painted bright and white, decorated with colourful canvases of artistic talent. Each artist can use their own desk with the additional option of a standing or table top easel. Postura plus chairs offer comfort and minimal distraction while artists are working. The studio is kitted out with a cleaning station, mini library full of inspirational books, storage area and child friendly bathroom. There is a sunny, secure outdoor area ideal for outdoor painting when the weather is good.
There are currently 10 classes running each week for different ages, including the new "Adult Art". There are 6 week terms, pay as you stay classes, Easter camps, Summer camps, open studio time during school and the occasional birthday party is catered for. The studio also accepts commissions and custom painting requests.
Anne strives in creating a friendly, relaxed environment for young people to enjoy painting with no pressure. Each group has a limited number of artists ensuring individual attention and guidance. Art is for everyone, it's not necessary to be good at drawing or painting to enjoy the classes at YAA. Anne does demos during throughout the term and artists own choice. Each artists learns new techniques, step by step and also assisted to improve current techniques and skills.
Anne does a great deal of her own, bright, fun and colourful paintings, most are for sale and commissions welcomed. Anne is now focusing on creating custom paintings as gifts for all ages and celebrations. Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and find out more about the YAA story.
